Step-by-Step Guide to Canceling Your Spotify Subscription
Spotify’s pricing has now surpassed Apple Music, making it more expensive. If you’re contemplating switching to Apple Music, you’ll need to know how to cancel your Spotify premium subscription.
Spotify has announced a price increase this year. The new rates are $12/month for an individual plan (up $1), $17/month for a two-person plan (up $2), and $20/month for a family plan (up $3). Only the student plan remains unchanged at $6/month.
These new prices are currently in effect for new users, while existing subscribers will see the increase starting in July.
This marks the second price increase for Spotify in the last 12 months. Last July, Spotify increased all its monthly subscription plans, including the student plan, by $1 to $2.

- Go to spotify.com/account and log in.
- In Account Overview, scroll to Your plan and click Change plan.
- Scroll down to Available plans and select Cancel Premium.
- Click Yes, cancel to complete the process.
Canceling won’t delete your account; it will downgrade you to the free tier, allowing ad-supported music streaming. Your playlists and saved music will remain intact.
If your next billing date is still a few days or weeks away, you’ll continue to enjoy your premium benefits until then. If you can’t find the option to change your plan, you might be subscribed through a package deal with another company, like a mobile or internet provider or Apple. In this case, contact the third party to cancel. For iPhone users, go to Settings, tap your name, then Subscriptions to manage services billed through Apple.
If you are part of a family plan but not the manager, you can leave the plan but cannot cancel it. Only the plan owner has that ability.
